Did Someone Say OSCARS?

Darlings, the night is FINALLY upon us! The night we've all been looking forward to for the last 365 days. The reason we've sat through movies with a bipolar Bradley Cooper, angry French revolutionists and Iranian hostages. It's a night full of surprises, glitz and glamour. Some of these take place at the actual Kodak Theater, but I'm referring to the famous Academy Awards Red Carpet.

I've had an Oscar party every year for the last 5 years. Now that I'm in college, I'm going to uphold that tradition, but with a twist. I'm still getting some of my girlfriends together to watch the Red Carpet and the awards show in my room, dressed to the nine's, of course. Here are 5 things I'm doing this Sunday:

Making red velvet carpet cupcakes and brown butter popcorn

Crafting a cheese plate from Whole Food's finest selection

Fixing my hair and donning a dress (probably my junior year prom dress seen here)

Printing out Oscar ballots so my guests can vote on their top film picks! (For my top picks in the major categories, see below)

Avidly critiquing and watching the red carpet and awards ceremony!

It's time to dim the lights and throw on a glamour gown! Dearies, it's Oscar time!

Best Picture: Argo or Les Mis
Actor in a Leading Role: Hugh Jackman
Actress in a Leading Role: Emmanuelle Riva

Valentine's Day!

Darlings, guess what day it is? (Hint: it involves lots of pink and red, ridiculous amounts of chocolate and a little thing called love.) It's one of my favorite days of the year... Valentine's Day! The national day of love is finally here! February 14th is about love and all of its different forms: friendship, romance, unconditional love, any kind of love!

I've spent today with  decorating cupcakes with friends, guest DJ-ing on Wake Radio, and watching Valentines Day (the movie) with my two incredible Valentines, Ben and Jerry. Ladies, let's be real, Ben and Jerry are the only two men we really need in our lives. In short, my Valentines Day has been spent with the people I love. The only thing that could make it better is if my family were here! Not to worry, I made and mailed off a Valentine to them the other day, and I received two darling cards today! Nothing like some paper love to make the family seem closer than 3,000 miles away on a day like today!

To those of you who are reading this, I love you! I might not know you, but I already love you. Here's to life, here's to love, and here's to you! Happy Valentine's Day, dearies! Have a LOVE-ly rest of your night!

XOXO,
Sam

Dorm Decor: Valentines Day

My darling chiquita bonitas, I've stocked up on my glittery paper, candy conversation hearts and there is this peculiar scent (could it be... Love?) in the air. This can only mean one thing: Valentines Day is finally here!

Valentines Day is one of my favorite days out of the year. While I've never actually had a Valentine (it's on my bucket list), I absolutely love February 14th for a variety of reasons: there are people who are head over heels in love, random acts of love and massive declarations of love occur, and more people wear pink than any other day of the year! And, I can watch The Notebook and Titanic on repeat with my two incredible valentines (Ben and Jerry, obviously) with absolutely no shame.

It's a little well known fact that I LOVE pink. I'm obsessed. I've got a pink car, I've got this blog, and I wear at least 1 pink article of clothing/accessory a day. So, when it came time to decorating my dorm for this Thursday, you can immediately guess what I color scheme I went with: pink, pink and more pink. But, just so it wasn't too overwhelming when you walk into my room, I decided to dial down the pink and throw in some greens and yellows and the occasional pop of red. Thanks to some $1 paper from Target's special holiday aisle, Mummsies darling Valentines Day package, and a few heart stencils from MarthaStewart.com, I turned my little dorm room into a Valentine's Day retreat.

Here are my tips for making any dorm room festive for February 14th:

Get some paper and cut out hearts and hang them around your room! You can make a garland, put them on your door, hang them from your ceiling, put them in your windows, etc

Find a candy dish and fill it with pink and red m&m's, candy conversation hearts, or licorice hearts!

Get some pink and red flowers (you always have fresh flowers in your room, of course!) and put them in little vases (or washed out Starbucks frapuccino glass bottles) around your room

Write the best love quotes of all time on pretty paper or index cards and hang them around your room

Get a little book (such as this book or this one) and put it on your nightstand

Find a small throw pillow in pink/red or with a heart on it (bonus points if it's heart shaped)

Or, you can make your own valentines and put a few on your desk! Stalk pinterest or  They'll look festive, and you can invite a friend, have some chocolate and put on Valentines Day or the Notebook (Sorry Ben & Jerry, but Ryan Gosling beats both of you)

Valentines Day is all about love! So, on February 14th, it doesn't matter if you aren't spending it with the love of your life! Love has many different forms! Call your family and tell them how much you love them, send a Valentine to a friend who's out of state, bake cupcakes for your hall/friends (I'm baking these) or just do random acts of kindness throughout the day.

Have a LOVEly (see what I did there?) Valentines Day, darlings! XO
